Hello! I am Mrs. O'Kelley, and I teach 6th and 7th grade Spanish at Haynes Bridge Middle School. This website is for the use of my students, their parents, and anyone else who might be interested in what goes on in our classes!
My personal mission for this school year is to lead students into a basic knowledge of the Spanish language and its key parts. I believe that students learn best in an environment where they feel safe and secure, where they can mix work with play, and where they have a teacher that will support them unconditionally. Learning Spanish isn't always an easy task, but I know that with the right attitude, any student is capable of speaking and writing the language with great proficiency!
Both of my classes are designed for students that have never studied Spanish before. We take a very basic look at the language and its uses for communication.
Students are reminded that while they may use certain websites and online tools to help them with their assignments, the use of Internet translators is strictly forbidden. The use of Internet translators is treated as plagiarism, and students will be reprimanded as outlined in the Student Handbook.
It is the student's responsibility to keep up with their coursework and ask for extra help when it is needed. Any student who is struggling can contact me for a help session before school. I am available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings, by appointment only. If a student would like to come in for extra help, he/she should speak with me the day before so that I can sign a pass in the agenda!
This is going to be a great year. Hopefully you know how much I love my job and how deeply I care about each student. I am committed to making this a wonderful experience for each child. I am so excited about each of my classes, and I look forward to getting to know all of my students as the year progresses!
